Twig Letters and numbers

I see my twig letters as little bits of poetry, they speak for you read them.  As we are all drawn to decode messages, so the twig letters compel the viewer to do this. But we do not stop at the word with these letters, we explore the component parts of each letter and look to identify them and then we consider the wire finials (the decorative wire things) which hover above the letters as the “hangers” for the letters, for they create another level of decoding or language, this time with inorganic material.  Consider also…. The aspect of the twig and its validation in this natural art piece that will be sheltered in your home.  Where twigs are usually left to decompose in the elements, in sheltering them you are honoring them.  They are easily placed in awkward spaces too.  So the space above a doorway becomes alive for it draws the eye with its language to consider ….. a forgotten space with (usually) forgotten natural bits.  As each season brings new and different natural components for us to consider, so my work is in a continual state of flux.  The gathering or harvesting, sorting, drying, bending, binding and balancing of weight and texture is always challenging and inspiring. My studio is a collection of organic material that sings the song of the love of nature and our communication with it.

I am grateful to be able to share my love for the beauty of nature and of language with you.  There is a tremendous serenity in considering the natural world more closely.
